Trust and obey is a hymn that has been sang for ages. The chorus goes “Trust and obey for there is no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.” Every time I sing it I am reminded on the importance of trusting in God no matter the current circumstances.
I must say 2021 so far has been a time for me to just let God do things His way. There are times I have felt like just rushing and doing things the way I think is best, but once I realized God’s way is always the best, then I started trusting His lead. At times in the middle of a crisis I have wondered how it will end up, God comes through and am left wondering why I was so anxious.
One of these days I was under pressure for a certain delivery that was needed in my work place, but the vendor delayed until I had to go home. I prayed that night and trusted that somehow the delivery would be done. I woke up with a bit of tension, wondering what would happen if it had not been delivered. I remember saying to myself I will believe that God has helped me, once I saw the delivered goods. Then immediately I was reminded of the story of Thomas in the Bible.
Thomas was one of the disciples of Jesus. When Jesus rose from the dead and appeared from the dead, he appeared to His disciples but Thomas was not among them. So when he later came and the other disciples told him that Jesus was alive. He did not believe, instead he said that he would only believe if he would see Jesus himself and put his fingers in the nail pierced hands. Jesus then appeared to the disciples and said to Thomas that it is was better to believe without seeing.
John 20:29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Have you found yourself in situations where you only want to trust God after seeing the results? Then the story of Thomas reminds us that we are not alone. However before you go on demanding to see. Jesus said that it is more blessed to believe without seeing. Just like you would want a child to believe that you would keep the promise of getting them a sweet, without having to see the sweet first, our heavenly father expects the same from us. Choose to trust even when you are not seeing the end results.
