Verse 21-22 She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet, she maketh herself coverings of tapestry, her clothing is silk and purple
This wonderful lady is showing great preparation for every season. She makes sure that as the weather changes her family is warm, so she doesn’t have to rush to make last minute purchase of warm jackets. She’s also not scared of her family catching a cold. On the other hand she also makes sure she’s well dressed, purple in the old days was known to be a color of royalty or honor, and that’s what she wears. In this we see two things, proper planning, and God expects us to have a plan, he says that we should commit our plans to Him, secondly she has a sense of style and fashion, but she’s still modest. This shows that an honorable woman is modest but also pretty.
Verse 23 Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land
This is the first time we are hearing about her husband, surprisingly we’re not told what he does for this awesome lady, but we’re told how he’s known because of her. Am thinking it’s because he must be healthy, strong, well dressed and thus looks very respectable. She also doesn’t go out bad mouthing him therefore he has a place to sit with the elders of the land. In this regard I look at us and the Lord Jesus, how does our behavior affect His reputation? Is He respected and given honor or we have tainted His name by how we do things?
Verse 24-She maketh fine linen, and selleth it, and delivereth girdles unto the merchant
Solomon has continuously repeated how this lady finds way to make money, so as stated above she makes her own clothes, and besides that she makes extra ones to at least sell. Therefore is is clear that we have to be resourceful, each one of us is gifted, we cannot afford to stay without being productive. Find something that can add value in your family, and community at large.
Verse 25-26 Strength and honour are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come, she openeth her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness
Here we see her good character, the Bible says that we shall give an account of every word that we say. This woman knows this, and therefore she only opens her mouth with wisdom, and kindness. Remember Solomon also said that words of kindness reduce anger. I know women tend to talk a lot, me included, and this lady is a good example to us all, to be careful about what we say. It is stated that she shall rejoice in the future, some things we do now may not have immediate results, but in the future, you’ll be glad you were kind. Character like a seed takes time to germinate, grow and bare fruit. Therefore start now, and wait for the fruits in future.
